Rubydent's range is a working-consumable line, and the core of it is cement. Between the zinc-based and glass ionomer lines it covers most of what a general practice needs to lute a crown, line a cavity or place a cheap, durable filling.

Cements

The cement range splits into two chemistries, chosen by the job.

Zinc-based cements

The traditional luting and base cements, still the value choice for full-coverage work.

• Zinc phosphate is the long-standing high-strength luting cement for crowns, inlays and bases. The Ruby Zinc P zinc phosphate cement is radiopaque and mixes to a smooth set.
• Zinc polycarboxylate is acid-free and kinder to the pulp, so it suits deeper preparations. The Ruby Zinc Poly polycarboxylate cement bonds to tooth structure for crowns, bridges and liners.

Glass ionomer cements

Fluoride-releasing, tooth-bonding cements that come in a filling grade and a luting grade.

• For a durable filling in a load-bearing cavity, the RubyCem glass ionomer filling cement is radiopaque and biocompatible.
• For cementing crowns and bridges, the RubyGlass L luting cement is resin-free with high fluoride release and an easy mix.

RubyGlass F, a restorative glass ionomer used as a base, liner or restoration, sits in the same line.

Prophylaxis paste

For the polish at the end of a scaling or hygiene visit, the RubyShine prophylaxis paste is an aluminium-oxide paste that removes plaque and stain and leaves a smooth, flavoured finish.

Denture teeth and other materials

Rubydent also makes CompacZahn acrylic denture teeth in Vita-equivalent shades, stocked in the CompacZahn denture teeth range. The Rubydent Hemostat hemostatic liquid and RubySE Cem dual-cure resin cement complete the line when back in stock.

What is the difference between zinc phosphate and zinc polycarboxylate cement?

Both are luting cements, but the chemistry differs. Zinc phosphate is the high-strength traditional choice for crowns, inlays and bases, though it is acidic on first mixing. Zinc polycarboxylate is acid-free and bonds to tooth structure, so it is gentler on the pulp and better suited to deeper preparations near vital dentine.

Which Rubydent glass ionomer cement should I use — filling or luting?

Match the grade to the job. Use RubyCem, the filling grade, to place a durable, fluoride-releasing restoration in a load-bearing cavity, or as a base. Use RubyGlass L, the luting grade, to cement crowns and bridges — it is thinner-mixing and resin-free. RubyGlass F covers base, liner and restoration roles.

What is RubyShine prophylaxis paste used for?

RubyShine is an aluminium-oxide prophylaxis paste used to polish teeth after scaling or during a hygiene visit. It removes plaque, biofilm and surface stain and leaves a smooth, glossy finish that resists re-accumulation. It is applied with a rubber cup or brush in a slow-speed handpiece, and comes in a flavoured formulation.
