Types of Bonding Agent

Universal adhesive (7th/8th generation — etch-rinse, self-etch or selective-etch)

Single-bottle universal adhesives that work in etch-rinse, self-etch or selective-etch modes on enamel and dentine — also bond to zirconia, lithium disilicate and metal substrates without a separate primer. How to Choose the Right Bond or Etchant

2. For minimal-prep paediatric and cervical Class V use a self-etch or universal adhesive in self-etch mode — lower post-op sensitivity.
3. For indirect restorations (veneers, all-ceramic crowns) use porcelain HF etchant + silane primer (Monobond N) + universal adhesive + dual-cure resin cement.
4. Etch enamel only with phosphoric acid for 15 seconds; dentine for 10 seconds maximum to avoid over-decalcification.
5. Apply universal adhesive in two coats (rub 20 seconds, gentle air thin, light cure 10 seconds) per the manufacturer IFU for best hybrid-layer formation.
6. Store adhesive bottles upright, dispense onto a paper pad only at use, and cap immediately — light-cure resin in bottles degrades on exposure.
