OptraPol 

 

OptraPol “Next Generation” is excellently suitable for finishing and polishing all popular composite restorations in a single step. The effective silicone polishers are highly filled with micro-fine diamond crystallites - up to 72 wt.%. Consequently, the results of the excellent polishing performance are visible within seconds.

 

After polishing with OptraPol “Next Generation”, composite restorations, e.g. made of Tetric EvoCeram, exhibit a lasting natural-looking lustre. The polishers effectively remove any surface roughness in a very short time and leave the restoration surface exceptionally smooth. As a result, the restorations are less susceptible to staining and the accumulation of plaque.

 

The OptraPol “Next Generation” one-step polishing system eliminates the need for changing instruments and the risk of confusing the grit size of polishers. In contrast to elastic polishing discs, OptraPol polishers are available in different shapes which are optimally matched to the contours of anterior and posterior teeth. Therefore, restoration surfaces can be polished with much more precision.

 

The polishers are dimensionally stable, wear resistant and long-lasting. They can be autoclaved and used up to 20 times.

Directions to use
Indication OptraPol is a one-step polishing system for all common dental composites and amalgam. 
Contraindication If a patient is known to be allergic to any of the components of the polishing instruments, the polishers should not be used.
Side effects None known to date
Composition The polishers are made of light-grey polishing material with a red core without polishing function. The light-grey polishing material consists of synthetic rubber and diamond particles. The red core material contains synthetic rubber, aluminium oxide, iron oxide and Irgazin red. The handles are made of stainless steel.
 
Usage
− Recommended speed: 5,000–8,000 rpm − Max. 10,000 rpm
− Only use with copious water spray (>50 ml/min).
− Use without polishing paste.
− Medium pressure (approx. 2N)
 
1.Place polishers on the surface to be processed only while they are rotating.
2.Polish with slightly rotary motions to avoid creating grooves.
3.Do not use damaged polishers.
4.Wear protective goggles and a face mask.
5.Provide efficient dust evacuation during the polishing procedure.
 
Safety notes 
− Use only technically and hygienically impeccable, regularly serviced and cleaned handpieces and angle pieces.
− The handpiece/angle piece drive must run smoothly.
− The polisher must be securely locked in the handpiece.
− Jamming/leveraging during rotation should be avoided to reduce the risk of instrument fracture.
− Do not have the polishers rotate at the same spot for too long, as this may lead to local overheating.
− The polishers tend to vibrate if the maximum admissible speed is exceeded. This may lead to damage of the polisher, deformation of the handle and/or fracture of the instrument.
− Excessive pressure or insufficient water cooling may lead to damage of the restoration and the adjacent tissue, as well as to accelerated wear of the polishing heads.
− The polishers are indicated for multiple use, provided efficient disinfection and sterilization can be ensured. Their function is not affected by correct disinfection and sterilization.
 
General notes: Please also observe the country-specific regulations and guidelines regarding the hygiene standards and cleaning/disinfection of medical devices in dental practices. Protective gloves and goggles complying with the requirements of directive 89/686/EEC must be worn to handle any used and contaminated instruments. New polishers are non-sterile and must be subjected to a complete preparation cycle before they are used for the first time. Subsequently, the finishers/polishers must be cleaned and disinfected immediately after every use. Additional sterilization in the steam sterilizer is explicitly recommended! Generally, cleaning in a washer-disinfector (WD) unit is preferable to manual cleaning! Place the polishers in the disinfecting batch for a maximum of 1 h. For reliable machine cleaning and disinfection, a WD with tested effectiveness (according of EN ISO 15883) must be used. The operator is responsible ensuring that the validation, performance re-qualification and periodic routine checks of the cleaning procedures in the washer-disinfector are defined, documented and performed accordingly. Machine cleaning and disinfection − Cleaning and disinfection of the polishers in a WD according to the instructions of the equipment manufacturer (e.g. WD: Miele G7883; cleaning and disinfecting agent: neodisher MediClean Dental/Dr. Weigert; program: SPECIAL 93°C – 10’ with a holding time of 10 min and subsequent post-rinsing of 3 min at 75°C (167°F) with neodisher Z Dental) Manual cleaning and disinfection − Clean polishers immediately after use with a brush (synthetic bristles) under running water. − Additionally, manual cleaning can be complemented with ultrasound-supported cleaning using a suitable cleaning and disinfecting agent (e.g. ID 212/Dürr Dental, 2%, for 2 min). Subsequently, thoroughly rinse polishers under running water. − For disinfection, immerse the polishers in a disinfecting solution for rubber and silicone polishers and resins, which is deemed appropriate by the manufacturer (e.g. ID 212/Dürr Dental, 2%, for 5 min). Observe the reaction time and concentration indicated by the manufacturer. − Subsequently, rinse the polishers with distilled water and dry with an unused, clean, lint-free cellulose towel. After cleaning and disinfection, visually examine the polishers for intactness and cleanliness. If macroscopically visible residual contamination is present, repeat the cleaning and disinfection process. Sterilization − Steam sterilizer − Autoclave the polishers at 134°C (273°F) with a holding time of 5 min (full cycle). − Drying time: 10 min − Do not use a chemiclave or hot-air disinfector for sterilization! Storage and shelf life − Store the polishers in a clean and dry storage box for rotary instruments. − Storage at 2–28°C (36–82°F) Notes – The Instructions for Use are available on the website of Ivoclar Vivadent AG (www.ivoclarvivadent.com).
