NSK (Nakanishi Inc.) is a Japanese manufacturer of dental handpieces and equipment, founded in 1930 and sold in more than 135 countries. Implant drilling needs torque, not speed. A 20:1 reduction handpiece delivers it, with internal irrigation and an anti-suck-back system for a sterile field. Yes. NSK sells the turbine cartridge separately for its main heads, including Pana Air, Pana Max, Ti-Max, Dyna LED and Mach-Lite. When a handpiece gets noisy, loses power or the chuck stops gripping, the bearing assembly is usually the problem — replacing the cartridge restores it far more cheaply than buying a new handpiece.
Lubricate it after every use and before autoclaving, then sterilise it to the manufacturer's cycle. Do not run it dry, and do not skip the oil. Replace the cartridge when performance drops rather than pushing a worn bearing. Handled this way, an NSK handpiece gives years of service; neglected, it fails in months.
